Hey all,
I am hoping you can help me out. I have a laptop 2 gig ram that runs Vista. Last night I was using it and it was acting weird so I had to force shut it down since it wasn't letting me do anything. I have not been able to start it back up since. Usually, I am able to start it up again, but not this time. When it does, it'll either just sit there or shut off again. Did my laptop crash for good? Is there some way I can fix this? With or without sighted assistance?

It's very rare for a piece of hardware to fail when somethings shutdown incorrectly - it can happen but it's probably more of a software issue.
It's going to be a case of having someone actually tell you what's on the screen when it turns on - you might have just messed up the os in which case a repair install should do the trick.

Have you tryed randomly hitting enter a few times while it's idal? Theres a chance that you could be on the f8 menue that you sometimes get when you incorrectly shutdown your box and it's waiting for input from you.

Yes I agree. Hit the inter a few times, but not fast. Hit it then wait say half a minute then hit it again. Do it maybe 10 times. If that fails try restarting it, then hit F 2 then the inter as before. Mucs faster to get someone to tell you what's on the screen, and if you tell us that someone here will surely be able to get you straighten out if the person helping does not know.

I've forgotten to add that the excape key will sometimes clear you to go.

Yep, the good old press enter a few times trick.
I always get a bit worried when I do it though.

also there is a little blue button that on the keyboard that if held down while being turned on, will tell you what all is wrong with your laptop, but this requires visual help.

What? I'm assuming your talking about some form of diagnostics program that's built into your laptop.
@the op I wouldn't get your hopes up on this blue button.

do you think the harddrive went? if you can, listen to the harddrive, if you hear loud clicking or abnormal clicking then your hrddrive went but if everything sounds good then it may be what the others have mentioned. i had a harddrive go on me last week, no fun. i noticed my computer ran real slow and it would abnormally shut off when my hardrive was going. i did not know it at the time but now i know.
